Toric contact lenses are designed for people with astigmatism.

Unlike ordinary lenses, toric contact lenses have two different prescriptions, positioned at right angles to each other.

In addition to this, they have a special weighting built into them to make sure that they stay in place when the wearer moves his or her eye.

Despite this, it is not healthy to create a totally immobile soft contact lens, so some movement will always be present. This means that people with larger amounts of astigmatism will always have more stable vision with their spectacles then with soft toric contact lenses.
